Your baby is ugly
In negotiations and transactions, this is a term disparaging the other bargaining party's preferred agenda or individuals. "Baby" is a metaphor for anything the other party is sensitive about. Calling it ugly can be tantamount to calling that party's real baby ugly. Such words could adversely affect negotiations, especially if you fail to remember what stage of the deal you're in. If in opening negotiations, for example, the buyer announces that in the event of a purchase, they won' need the current CFO (who happens to be the CEO's son), the deal could die. If the buyer had only waited until after closing the deal, the situation could have been handled more tactfully.
